NITA in cooperation with the State Research Institute of Aviation Systems tested ADS-B mode 4 equipment for flights and aircraft landing to drift ice of Barneo Camp. NITA was represented by Fedor Stepanov, engineer of Introduction and Technical Support department.

In 2016 NITA already participated in expedition to Barneo Ice Camp which is annually arranged by Russian Geographic Society at drift ice in a close proximity to North Pole.

Again, as in previous year ADS-B mode 4 radio stations were installed at the ice airfield for precise positioning of the runway. Specific feature of the testing in 2017 was data retransmission from ADS-B stations (installed at runway thresholds) to aircraft by means of base station on TIS-B link that enabled considerable increase of the radio stations range.

The expedition also included installation of ADS-B mode 4 with weather station, and supervisor workstation of ALPHA ATC system to generate complete system which is able to provide airspace users with actual information of air traffic situation.
